XII Edition (October 2012 – October 2013)
Scholarship Competition

MIB School of Management of Trieste, Italy is pleased to announce a scholarship competition for applicants to the XII edition of the International Master in Tourism & Leisure.

The Scholarship will go toward tuition fees to attend the XII edition of the International Master in Tourism & Leisure (October 2012 – October 2013).

The Scholarships will cover up to 70% of the tuition fees. The full tuition fees are equivalent to 18.150,00 EUR (21% VAT included). The amount of the scholarships will be discounted from the overall tuition fees. In case of course abandonment or exclusion for any reason, no amount of the scholarship will be paid or reimbursed.

The candidates need to meet the following requirements:

  • academic degree (or equivalent qualification) in any discipline;
  • fluent working knowledge of English (a TOEFL, IELTS or PTE certificate is an asset);
  • significant work and life experience is an asset;

MIB School of Management will grant the scholarships to the best candidates on the basis of educational qualifications, personal skills, professional know-how and motivation shown during the assessment interview.

In order to finalize the application, the following documents must be received:

  • degree certificate and transcript;
  • two letters of recommendation;
  • if available a certificate which demonstrates an adequate knowledge of English such as TOEFL, IELTS or PTE (alternatively, verification will be made directly by the School);
  • if available a deductive reasoning test score such as GMAT (alternatively, verification will be made directly by the School).

Master and PhD Scholarships, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia

KFUPM currently offers 32 Master Programs and 11 Doctorate Programs in 27 different disciplines.

Introduction
We welcome outstanding and talented prospective graduate students from around the nation and the world to apply for Graduate Studies. Besides national students, KFUPM currently has international graduate students from 28 different nationalities. The graduate admission is open twice a year for the two semesters: The Fall Term (usually starting in September) and the Spring Term (usually starting in February).

After submission of the online application, mandatory documents need to be uploaded through the Upload System using the same Login ID and PIN created for the online application using this link at official website.

KGSP Graduate Scholarships, Ajou University, Korea

Admission Schedule

Eligibility for Application

  1. Both applicant and his/her parents must be citizens of the foreign country. Applicants cannot have Korean citizenship.
  2. Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for a long period of time.
  3. Should be under 40 years of age as of September 1, 2012
  4. Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of September 1, 2012
    • For Master’s program(or Integrated Master’s & Doctoral program): students who hold a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than Bachelor’s degree
    • For Doctoral program: students who hold a Master’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than Master’s degree.
    • Applicants who are enrolling or have already enrolled in the same academic program in Korea as the one they are applying for will not be admitted.
    • Applicants who are expecting the adequate diploma should present their diploma by September 1, 2012 before entry.
  5. Should have a grade point average (G.P.A.) at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previous attended institution
    • If the grade is difficult to convert to percentage, official explanatory documents from the attended university are required.
  6. applicants who submit Korean Proficiency test score (TOPIK, KLPT) or English proficiency test score(TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS) will get advantage.

Application Procedure

Screening Method
Students are selected by evaluation of their documents and interviews, and the examination of applicants’ documents includes their financial ability. For overseas applicants, the interview screening committee of a departmental may conduct the evaluation based on a phone interview, e-mail and the submitted documents in place of a personal interview.

A. Examination of Documents: The evaluation is conducted by the department based on undergraduate or graduate level grades.

B. Interview : The evaluation is conducted on ability in a major, linguistic proficiency, aptitude and personality. Language proficiency (Korean or English) is evaluated to confirm whether or not it is at an appropriate level to take classes in the respective languages

Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for International Students, China

University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) administers 3 types of international students scholarship offered by the Shanghai Municipal Government in an attempt to encourage excellent international students and scholars to study at USST.

I. Types of scholarship and who shall apply

  1. Type A (full scholarship)
    It is granted to excellent international students who will apply for Master / Doctor degree program in USST
  2. Type B (partial scholarship)
    It is granted to excellent international students who will apply for Bachelor / Master / Doctor degree program in USST
  3. Type C (scholarship for outstanding students)
    It is granted to outstanding international students who take long term degree program in USST.

II. The scholarship contains:

  1. Type A (full scholarship)
    Students who are granted the type A scholarship will be exempt from application fee, tuition, elementary learning materials expense and lodging expense and will be provided with comprehensive medical insurances for free. The Master’s and Doctoral degree candidates will enjoy monthly living allowance of CNY1,100 RMB and CNY1,400 respectively.
  2. Type B (partial scholarship)
    Students who are granted the type B scholarship will be exempt from application fee, tuition, elementary learning materials expense.
  3. Type C (scholarship for outstanding students)
    It is established to encourage the currently enrolled excellent international students who are pursuing long-term study at higher educational institutions in Shanghai. The winners will receive a one-off scholarship in an academic year.

III. Prerequisites of the applicants

  1. Non-Chinese citizen in good health
  2. Applicants pursuing Bachelor’s degree should hold High School degree diploma or the equivalent and should be under the age of 25, and the applicant can only apply for Type B or Type C scholarships. Applicants pursuing Master’s degree should hold Bachelor degree diploma or the equivalent and should not be under the age of 35. Applicants pursuing Doctor’s degree should hold Master degree diploma or the equivalent and should not be under the age of 40.
  3. The applicants should have excellent academic records.
  4. The applicants should be in default of any other Chinese government scholarship.

IV. When to apply and how to apply

Type A (full scholarship)
Application of type A will be processed by the university from Jan 1st to Jun 10th every year.

Application material:

  1. Application Form for Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) Class A,filled in Chinese or English

  4. Study Plan in China (no less than 1,000 words) in Chinese or English;

  6. Copy of Chinese language proficiency test result of HSK 6 or above ( for students will take programs taught in Chinese);
  7. Students who apply for art programs should provide their works;
  8. Copy of valid passport if available.

V. Processing and Final Results

VI. About Visa for Study in China and Registration Formalities of scholarship Winner

  1. Visa for study in China
    The winners of Scholarship type A and type B who directly come to Shanghai from abroad should apply for the student visa (for students who will study for over 6 months, “X” visa should be applied) to the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country with original and copy of Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study in China (JW202), Foreigner Physical Examination Form, Scholarship Award Notice and valid passport.
  2. Registration
    If any scholarship winner fails to register within the time limit without the permission of the institution, he/she will be regarded as giving up the admission and the scholarship.
  3. Health certificate and residence permit
    Students with scholarship should bring along Foreigner Physical Examination Form and go to the Shanghai Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau International Travel Health Center for verification. If they do not have health verification from the center, they should take physical examination till they receive a Health Certificate from the said center. Anyone who refuse the physical examination or enter China with certain diseases that will be rejected as regulated by the Chinese laws and regulations will be requested to leave China within limited days and the scholarship will be canceled accordingly. The relevant expense is on the said students. The lodging and living allowance funds from Scholarship A will be stopped from that month.

Students with scholarship should apply for the Residence Permit to the Exit-Entry Bureau of Shanghai Police Station within 30 days from the date they enter China.

Graduate Scholarships in Aerospace Engeneering, South Korea

We proudly announce the launch of LANL-CBNU Engineering Institute Korea, a joint venture program of our lab with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA. Therefore, we need some dedicated graduate students as the backbone of the program. Our projects are related, but not limited, to the application of laser ultrasound technologies and optical fiber sensors technologies to the non-destructive test and evaluation (NDT&E), and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of important engineering structures, such as wind turbine, space launch vehicle, nuclear power plant, and aircraft. All the projects are application based with supports from the industries or government, and have great potential to be commercialized.   • Prefer candidates with signal/image processing, embedded system (FPGA), real-time application, RFID, wireless sensors network, or LabVIEW skills.

  • If available, a copy of TOEFL-IBT results taken within the last 2 years and with a minimum score of 80 (Özyeğin University TOEFL code: 5991). If you do not submit your TOEFL score you will need to take the English Language Placement and Proficiency Tests administered by the Özyeğin School of English Language Instruction during the registration period. Depending on the results of these tests, you may be placed in the English language instruction program before entering your undergraduate study program or start your undergraduate study program directly.

Master’s Studentship for UK/EU Applicants at University of Manchester

BBSRC studentships are available to candidates seeking entry on the Master by Research (MRes) in Tissue Engineering for Regenerative Medicine (TERM) in September 2012. These distinguished and highly competitive studentships are available to applicants who hold or expect to be awarded a 1st or 2i (or equivalent) in a relevant subject who are UK/EU* applicants.

Studentships provide full support for tuition fees in addition to a tax-free minimum stipend of £13, 590.Applicants for the MRes seeking BBSRC support should submit a BBSRC studentships application (Word, 76 KB) alongside their online application for the MRes programme. Applicants are recommended to initially submit a formal application for the MRes online (online application) and then submit the application for BBSRC funding separately. The Calum Miller MBA Scholarship, University of Edinburgh, UK

One scholarship of £10,000 is awarded to a student from any country.

Eligibility
The scholarships are open to applicants who have an excellent academic record and who are applying for admission onto the Full-time MBA or MBA in International Business in September 2012. An award may be withdrawn if a student fails to meet the academic standards set by the University.

Although applications for the scholarships should be made before 31 May 2012, the scholarships will only be awarded to applicants who have firmly accepted their offer through payment of the deposit. Applicants who hold full sponsorships are not eligible for the scholarship.

If an applicant is successful in being awarded a scholarship, but subsequently declines their offer of admission on the MBA programme, the award of the scholarship will be withdrawn and awarded to another applicant.

Applying
Applicants should submit a 1000 word essay, explaining why they feel they should be awarded the scholarship, and how the scholarship will benefit them.

This essay should accompany the application for admission to the MBA programme.

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the benefits to the student. The decision will be made by a committee consisting of Directors and key staff from Admissions.

If you have already sent your application, you are welcome to apply separately. Please enclose your full name and contact details as stated in your programme application. Separate scholarship applications without these details will not be considered.

Notification
A Selection Committee will meet in June 2012 to select the scholarship holder and the winner will be announced shortly afterwards. The successful applicants will be invited by the University to attend an award ceremony early on in the programme.

International Undergraduate Merit Scholarships (IUMS)
IUMS is intended for international students who study for their first degree at Newcastle University. This partial scholarship has a value of £2,250 for the first year of study. Eligible applicants will be considered based on the information given on their UCAS application form.

International Family Discounts (IFD)
The University offers partial discounts to close relatives (husband, wife, brother, sister, mother, father, son or daughter) of students/graduates, who have been assessed as ‘international’ for fees purposes, and who wish to pursue their studies at Newcastle University or are currently studying here. Each award is worth 10% of the tuition fees per annum for the normal duration of the degree programme payable into the student’s tuition fee account.

Students may only apply for a discount if they are registered as a student at the University or after they have been offered a place to study on their chosen degree programme and have been assessed as international for fees purposes.

Where two family members are intending to start their studies in 2012 or are currently studying at the University, one will be able to apply for an IFD. The value of these awards is 10% of the tuition fees for each year of the degree programme.

Eligibility for Application

  1. Both applicant and his/her parents must be citizens of the foreign country.
    • Applicant who has Korean citizenship is not eligible to apply.
  2. Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for a long period of time.
    • Applicant must submit “personal Medical Assessmet” during the application process and if admitted, he/she must submit and”official Medical Assessment’ issued by a medical doctor. If serious conditions are found including HIV and drug related issues in which long term international study can be affected, admission will be rescinded prior to applicant’s entry to Korea
  3. Should be under 40 years of age as of September 1, 2012 (Born after September 1, 1972)
  4. Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of August 31, 2012
    • For Master’s program: students who hold a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than Bachelor’s degree
    • For Doctoral program: students who hold a Master’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than Master’s degree.
    • Applicants who are enrolling or have already enrolled in the same academic program in Korea as the one they are applying for will not be admitted.
    • Applicants who are expecting the adequate diploma should present their diploma by September 1, 2012 before entry.
  5. Should have a grade point average (G.P.A.) at least more than B (on a 3.0/4.0 scale) or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previous attended institution
    • If the grade is difficult to convert to percentage, official explanatory documents from the attended university are required.
  6. Applicants who have Korean language score(TOPIK, KLPT) or English score(TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS) in the first selection give extra points, those who only have language score.
  7. If the selection score is same with competitor, applicants who applied natural sciences and engineering will be chosen first selection.

  • Dual recommendation by more than one organization is not acceptable.
  • Submitted documents will not be returned to the candidates.
  • Incomplete or incorrect documents are subject to rejection by NIIED. (Even after entry to Korea)
  • In case of submitting copied documents inevitably, applicants must submit compare the copy to the original of recommedation institute.

What we are offering
The University of Birmingham is offering International Postgraduate Scholarships worth £10,000 towards the cost of tuition fees for a one year masters course. These awards are for tuition fees only and cannot be used for maintenance/living costs.

Who we are looking for
Applicants must have an excellent academic background. Due to the level of competition for these scholarships, only applicants with a 1st class bachelors degree will be considered.

Applicants must also demonstrate excellence in an area of their life. This might be outstanding academic achievement, exceptional achievement in extra curricular activities (such as sport, music, managing events or societies) or significant achievement gained either in their working life or through volunteering and service to others.

Applicants must also outline the contribution they will make to the University of Birmingham as a student and what they expect to gain from studying here.

Eligibility
In order to apply candidates must:

  • be overseas for fee purposes
  • have applied for a one year full time masters course and have been issued with a student id number
  • not be in receipt of a full fee scholarship from any other source
  • have made adequate financial provision to study in the UK

LLM Scholarships, Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham, UK

For 2012-2013 Birmingham Law School will be offering a range of scholarships to applicants for its taught LLM programmes.
  • up to £5,000 for international students (Non EU)
  • up to £2,000 for UK/EU students.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Applicants must already have applied for admission to the LLM degree.

Applying for a scholarship
Applicants are required to send a letter of motivation to Mrs Sharon Jones (Law-LLM@bham.ac.uk) addressing the twin requirements of academic merit and financial need.

The closing date for the receipt of Scholarship applications is Friday, 22 June 2012.

Successful applicants will be notified in July 2012. Scholarships are not payable directly to successful applicants but are set off against the University fee invoice for 2012-2013 and will be transferred once successful applicants have paid the balance owed by them to the University.

Eligibility for Application

  1. The applicant and his/her parents must have foreign citizenship.
    • Applicants who hold Korean citizenship are not qualified for this program.
  2. Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for a long period of time.
    • Applicants have to submit the Personal Medical Assessment (included in the application form) when he/she apply for this program, and then submit an Official Medical Examination Report issued in a hospital to NIIED after passing the NIIED Selection Committee (the 2nd Selection). A serious illness reflected in the examination results will be the main cause of disqualification from the scholarship.
  3. Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of Sep. 1st, 2011 (born after Sep. 1st, 1971).
  4. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of September 1, 2011.
    • Applicants who have ever enrolled in the same program in Korea as the one they are applying for will be disqualified from the program. For example, an applicant who has previously enrolled in a master’s program in Korea cannot apply for the KGSP Master’s Program.
    • Applicants who apply for the Master’s program must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than a Bachelor’s degree.
    • Applicants who apply for the Doctoral program must hold a Master’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than a Master’s degree.
    • Applicants who are expecting to obtain the relevant required degree or diploma by August 31st, 2011 must submit a certificate of degree or diploma expectation, and submit the official certificate of degree or diploma by September 1st, 2011.
  5. Applicants must maintain a grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4. 3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previously attended institution.
    • If the transcript is not indicated in grades/marks/scores format, or is difficult to convert into percentages, attachment of official explanation from the attended institution is required.
  6. Applicants who have Korean proficiency or English proficiency may be given preference.
  7. Applicants who apply for natural science and technology program may be given preference.

Application Procedure
Screening Method
Students are selected by evaluation of their documents and interviews. For overseas applicants, the interview screening committee of a departmental may conduct the evaluation based on a phone interview, email and the submitted documents in place of a personal interview.

  • Examination of documents: The evaluation is conducted by the department based on undergraduate or graduate level grades.
  • Interview: The evaluation is conducted on ability in a major, linguistic proficiency, aptitude and personality.

Campus Life (Residence Hall)
The University Dormitory Complex has eight dormitory facilities, which can accommodate up to 2,803 students. It also has incidental facilities for helping student’s comfortable rest, including: study room (independent study room, computer room), physical training facilities (fitness facility, tennis courts), Internet cafeteria, musical hall, movie theater, and Internet access equipment for each student room.

We focus on the student guiding principles, which are harmonized with self-regulation and restriction for the following purposes: to create an academic atmosphere, to improve student’s health through sports, and to help to build the student’s character through dormitory life.

Facilities
Each student room: bookshelves, bed, wardrobe, telephone, shoe chest, electric fan, and Internet access equipment.

Public facilities: Internet cafeteria, movie theater, coin laundry, reading room, lecture room (English, Chinese, Japanese), shower room, resting room, washroom, ironing stand, fitness facility, badminton court, table-tennis room, foot-baseball court, campus kiosk, etc.

Selection Criteria

  1. General Selection (95% of total capacity)
    • Select by admission records(each college, department, and school year).
  2. Priority Selection (5% of total capacity):
    • Graduate student, Students who have a special flair in athletics, Overseas Koreans.
    • Students who were in the student dormitory committee in the previous semester, and students who have a good record in dormitory life.

Important Notes

  1. All required documents must e originals.
  2. Documents written in foreign languages except Korea and English must be submitted along with the public notary copies translated in Korean or English
  3. All application documents will not be returned
  4. The applicant’s English name and date of birth must match the information on his/her passport.
  5. Urgent notices are sent out by e-mail. Please indicate email address accurately.
  6. Any false or misleading statement may disqualify your application.
  7. Student’s application can be canceled due to insufficient documents.

PhD Research Scholarship, Quantifying Uranium Minerals, RMIT University, Australia

Proposed PhD project: Development of new methodologies for quantifying uranium minerals in complex uranium bearing ores

The chemistry involved in extracting uranium from uranium bearing ores is complex due to uranium bearing ores containing a number of different uranium minerals in addition to the other numerous minerals / compounds found in these ore bodies. In order to gain a better understanding of the chemistry of uranium extraction from uranium bearing ores detailed information on the type and quantity of uranium minerals present in feed ores is required. The aforementioned information is however difficult to obtain using current techniques due to uranium minerals usually being found in ores in very low concentrations as very fine grains. In addition the current techniques that are capable of providing the aforementioned information are laborious and expensive and cannot be used for analysing a large number of samples in a short time frame.

The main aim of this research project will be to investigate the development of new methodologies for determining / characterising the uranium minerals found in uranium bearing ores. It will involve studies using a range of instrument techniques including a new microprobe technique recently developed at the CSIRO.

The successful applicant will be based at the City campus of the School of Applied Sciences and will also be required to undertake research at the CSIRO’s laboratories in Clayton.

Value: $27,000 per year (for 3 years).
